This work is composed of textbooks and books from different periods and weights, submerged in water. Black oil traces the shifting waterline between them, connecting each displaced surface into a single fault line.

The piece departs from a biographical circumstance: a transfer from a traditional Chinese junior high school, where collective life was organized entirely around the University Entrance Exam, to an international high school with expensive tuition fees. This transition opened a rupture in shared experience, one that made visible how classmates of equal ability could arrive at entirely different fates under different family circumstances and educational systems.

This  piece is trying to visualised the way individual trajectories are quietly sorted by structures that remain largely invisible from within them. The uneven waterlines between books of different weights become a diagram of this sorting, a microcosm of how economic globalization, international political relations, and class difference in China shape the contours of individual life.
